THE HEALTH HUT
The hut is located in the middle of the forest in Porreres
This small, quiet village is located a little off the main Palma – Manacor road in the Pla de Mallorca region. Here it is idyllic, quiet and contemplative. In Porreres live about 5.500 inhabitants (2013). The name of the city comes from the knight Guillem de Porrera. He was very active in the campaign to conquer Mallorca.
As an important source of income of the town is the cultivation of wine, but also apricots are traded and good money is earned.
The unusually large parish church Senyora de Consolació, built in the 17th century, dominates the village. Because of its size and special window rosette from 1798, it is also called the cathedral of rural Mallorca.
The church is surrounded by tall palm trees. Inside the church, besides the altar, which was created by Josep Sastre in 1762, there are beautiful tile paintings and a church treasure with a processional cross from the 14th century. This was once owned by the Order of the Temple.
Next to the entrance of the church you can see a memorial stone with a half-sculpture by Opispo Pedro Juan Campins Barcelo Mallorca, the bishop of Mallorca from 1898 – 1915.
From here you can take a nice trip to the Santuarie de Montision, about 4 km away, from where you have a wonderful view of the island.
The Santuari de Montision is situated on a mountain south of Porreres. There is a parking lot in front of the monastery. From there you can reach the inner courtyard of the monastery by stairs. In 1551 a religious school for prospective priests was opened here, but it was abandoned in the early years of the 19th century. It was rebuilt towards the end of the same century.
